Will Somebody Say Amen?
Memory recalls that I inquired at the school office to see if I could get a substitute for the afternoon. My intent was to take half day's personal leave. Although it was pouring down rain I made arrangements to pick up my two-year-old grandson from daycare so that we could scoot off to the mall in Raleigh . We found a space on the lower level parking deck where I buckled Jonathan into his stroller for the ride inside. While heading across the lot towards the elevator I spotted some money on the pavement. Greenbacks just lying there caused an unexpected flow of adrenalin. There were four twenty dollar bills folded twice; do the math. Eighty dollars. Wow! What to do? Turn it over to security? Take it to customer service? Just count it as a treasure trove and spend it? None of these options was satisfying.   read more

PENTECOST CELEBRATION
at JONESBORO UMC!
Jonesboro United Methodist Church in the Sanford District will have an extra special Pentecost Sunday this year.  Their worship will be joined with their Hispanic/Latino members of La Trinidad's ministry.  Jonesboro UMC/La Trinidad will be taking 20 new members!

Jonesboro 's Anglo and Hispanic/Latino members completed a two-part EMBRACE Workshop that took place in March and April.  They are reaching out to one another and experiencing UNITY in the body of Christ, as God intends it to be for His children.  We celebrate the work that God is doing in the Sanford District at Jonesboro UMC through the leadership of Rev. Joe Wilburn, Senior Pastor with Rev. Izzy Perez, EMBRACE Coordinator.

We also celebrate continued growth and development of the congregation at El Camino's ministry in Siler City under the leadership of Rev. Daniel Pantoja.

When Hispanic/Latinos Meet...
In our conference, when Hispanic/Latinos meet in a local church and the pastor and laity refer to them as "The Hispanic Church" we ask ourselves why. We are called to be one in Christ. It is our desire to participate in one church experience. Gatherings at different times and in differenct languages honor different cultures-the cultures of teenagers, children, singles, older adults, etc. We enjoy singing and hearing the Word of God taught in a language that is so familiar to our hearts! But we love being part of the family of God.
